Simulation Analysis & Application Support Engineer

The Motorsports Technology Group supports the Pratt Miller Motorsports Programs with cutting-edge tools and capabilities to maximize success on the racetrack.

OVERVIEW:

The Simulation Analysis & Application Support Engineer will help develop and maintain leading-edge vehicle simulation and analysis products. These products include Dymola based multi-body modeling libraries and simulation software and simulation-based vehicle performance analysis and optimization tools. The Simulation & Application Support Engineer will also interact with Pratt Miller customers and internal programs to support these simulation products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Simulation Analysis and Optimization

  • Interact with customers and Pratt Miller internal programs to develop requirements for simulation analysis tools and capabilities
  • Develop, prototype, and maintain methodologies for advanced simulation analysis
  • Develop, prototype, and maintain vehicle simulation optimization methodologies to improve vehicle performance
  • Complete validation efforts for new tools and capabilities
  • Work with the Software team to mature prototypes into distributable products

Simulation Model Development

  • Develop and help maintain vehicle and subsystem models and experiments to support the simulation analysis and optimization tools and capabilities
  • Complete correlation and validation efforts of the vehicle and subsystem models as needed

Simulation Application Support

  • Support internal engineers and/or external customers with the Pratt Miller Simulation Software Tools
  • Participate in regular product testing to ensure the development and release of high-quality software

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
  • At least 5 years professional or academic experience in automotive engineering and simulation

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Required Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the development and application of vehicle simulation toolsets
  • Solid vehicle dynamics background
  • Solid vehicle simulation background
  • Experience with vehicle analysis methods
  • Experience with multi-body simulation tools
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and/or Python
  • Technology savvy
  • Ability to work independently and move projects forward with little direction
  • Willingness to independently learn and embrace new concepts
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills for communicating with other Pratt & Miller Engineering team members and customers

Preferred Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Vehicle development experience using full-vehicle simulation, high-performance vehicle development a plus
  • Experience with simulation development (preferably in Dymola and/or Modelica)
  • Experience with composite model simulation (preferably with FMI and SSP Standards)
  • Experience with applied simulation analysis
  • Experience with applied optimization
  • Proficiency with C, C++, and/or C#

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Long hours may be required
  • Stress may occur periodically
  • Limited amounts of travel may be required

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Minimum of 40 hrs/week, 8 hrs/day
