Senior Design Engineer - 2024

OVERVIEW: Experienced design engineer with core responsibilities including product and system design and development with an ability to lead the technical execution of a small team. The main focus will be mechanical system and product design using CAD and structural analysis (FEA), supported by systems modeling. This position’s responsibilities will span from initial concepts through detailed drawing execution while working within a project team under the review of a design team lead. System-level design leadership and direction is a responsibility of this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Vehicle and Product System Design & Development
    • System physics modeling and characterization
    • CAD system and component concept development and packaging
    • Application of linear-static Finite Element Analysis in design optimization
    • Technical drawing generation
    • Prepare and present project status reports
    • Test design, development, and reporting (DVP&R)
    • Guidance of lower-level engineers in their efforts
  • Project Support
    • Support and resolve customer problems using mechanical, analytical, CAE and project management skills
    • Prepare technical specifications for use by Pratt & Miller Engineering
    • Support manufacturing by answering questions and responding to ECRs.
    • Function as system-level primary customer contact in some scenarios

REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 8yrs engineering employment experience
  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience generating parametric 3D models and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Experience using Finite Element Analysis as a key part of the design process
  • Strong technical writing, communication, team, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent
  • Strong technical writing, communication, team, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to support technicians and shop builds
    • Operate hand tools, explain design intent and assembly processes

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • 8am-4pm core (minimum) work hours (typically 45hrs per week average)
  • Project surge support and additional effort as needed to achieve deadlines
  • Option for hybrid work environment (in-office and remote work)

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will typically be performed in a team-based office environment. Our team members work on collaborative, challenging projects that offer the opportunity to learn from a wide range of expertise and have fun in the process. Some travel may be required for customer and supplier meetings, off-site training, off-site testing, and attendance at industry conferences.
