Motorsports Customer Group Engineer

OVERVIEW: Pratt & Miller is seeking a Raceops Engineer in the Motorsport Customer Group to support customers, projects, development, and toolsets on the Cadillac DPi.V-R and Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race programs. This role will include race and test event support.

The ideal candidate will have a strong fundamental engineering skillset, be comfortable working with customers, have experience with vehicle design and development, and have a background in vehicle dynamics. A background in vehicle or motorsports engineering and/or previous motorsports experience (including FSAE) is a plus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:

Candidate will be assigned to multiple projects covering both the Cadillac DPi.V-R and Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R programs. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Cadillac DPi.V-R responsibilities:
    • Onsite race event work supporting GM Key Partner Teams with Pratt & Miller software toolsets
    • Onsite race event work supporting GM Key Partners with Timing and Scoring analysis and reports
    • Post Event Balance of Performance data analysis and presentation creation
    • Continuous software toolset improvement
    • Cadillac personnel interface
  • Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R responsibilities:
    • Core development work to solve issues and push development of core car to improve reliability, durability, and performance
    • Event-based simulation work
    • Homologation updates
    • Onsite race and test event work supporting Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R customers
    • Post Event Balance of Performance data analysis and presentation creation
    • Chevrolet personnel and Camaro GT4.R customer interface

Essential skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Proficiency with numerical analysis methods utilizing Excel and MATLAB
  • Solid vehicle dynamics background
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills for communicating with other Pratt Miller team members and clients

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or other related field
  • Preferred - At least 3 years professional or academic experience in automotive engineering and simulation (motorsports preferred)

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experience with Motec software and componentry
  • Test event planning, implementation, and analysis
  • Data acquisition
  • Vehicle development simulation experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds on occasion
  • Basic mechanical profiency

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Long hours may be required
  • Stress may occur periodically
  • Limited amounts of travel may be required
  • Minimum of 45 hours a week
  • Telecommuting or virtual test support may be required
