Your responsibilities

Summary

The Vehicle Dynamics (VD) Technician is Valuable member of the Vehicle Dynamics team who is responsible for support of the Vehicle Dynamics and setting industrialization process. The VD team is responsible for ensuring the function of new dampers in development meet the dynamics requirements of our OEM and Aftermarket customers. As such, this individual is expected to wear many hats to complete all steps of the process including but not limited to: Logistics, Assembly, Quality, Safety, Continuous Improvement, Mechanical Troubleshooting, and especially Great Customer Service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently performs and completes all tasks assigned to them by the Engineering Team Lead with little supervision.
  • Reads and understands build sheets, written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and verbal instruction to correctly build prototype dampers and identify issues through the build process.
  • Follows and completes all tasks as documented in each specific build phase.
  • Correctly uses industrial machines and fixtures to complete damper builds and can identify when new fixtures, tools, and processes are needed.
  • Sets up and operates industrial machinery such as hydraulic presses, gas fill machines, and hydraulic test stands.
  • Capable of development vehicle support including damper module assembly and disassembly, basic alignment settings, basic maintenance and troubleshooting suspension problems.
  • Sets up and operates test and measurement equipment recording results into build sheets. Recognizing out of spec measurements and elevating to the Engineering Team Lead.
  • Packaging and shipping prototype damper parts including completing UPS shipments and required shipping paperwork.
  • Supports VD Engineers and Specialists in the completion of valve code mastering and capability studies, through building and testing dampers.
  • Accompanies VD Engineers and Specialists on tuning events to assist with the building and testing of dampers (40-50% travel requirement).
  • Approaches each day as an opportunity to serve the internal customers of the Global Engineering Services Department (Internal and External customers) and completes any task designated to them to do so.
  • Responsible for maintaining an orderly work area and adhering to safety mandates, work practices and 6S standards and initiates garage improvements.

Your profile

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in automotive or manufacturing.
  • Experience in measurement machines.
  • Strong background in automotive suspensions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Possesses a stable work history, preferrably in a development environment, and a strong personal desire to work safely and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced math, including working with decimals.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and work instructions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Possesses a logical method of problem solving and willingness to learn and improve one’s skills.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to meet and exceed customer requirements at all times.
  • Possesses good hand-eye coordination and is able to perform detailed work with a strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Possesses strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.
  • Highly organized with ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behaviors in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.
  • Strong attention to detail with well-developed organizational and communication skills.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • ASE Certification a plus
