Quality Engineering Technician

Your responsibilities

Summary: Supports production and production engineering to ensure that products comply with customer and Bilstein requirements and automotive quality standards. This position reviews, audits, sorts, documents, inspects, analyzes, trains, releases, transacts, writes standard procedures and work instructions, tracks, interacts closely with operators and leads, keeps the quality team informed, problem-solves, and reports. They will support engineers in the implementation of new products and engineering changes, trial production runs, or performance testing dampers. During these processes, they record and analyze the results in order to decide whether to certify or reject specific products. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Evaluates and dispositions suspect and non-conforming material. Gages tracking and maintenance including calibration dates, R&R (???) studies, MSA’s (???) and capability studies. Performs testing and dimensional layouts for production, PPAP, and cleanliness. Performs audits of Quality Systems, production components, & processes. Tracks daily scrap and reporting trending top issues. Sets up testing and analysis to find root cause to reduce or eliminate scrap occurrences Provides production support in troubleshooting during production down time. Performs deep dive issues to draw conclusions on root cause and provide a corrective action plan. Coordinates activities (What types of activities and for what reason?) between Production, Quality, Maintenance and Process Engineering Performs and documents failure analysis (tear downs) during the following: Prototype builds, line Trials, and Engineering changes Product launches Production Ensures valid production release after minor or major adjustments or maintenance. Assists Quality Engineers in root cause analysis, data collection and troubleshooting. Assists as Quality presence on the lines as a roaming inspector. Assists in training and multiplies quality techniques and processes. Maintains involvement in process/equipment improvements or updates. Reviews tear down analysis results with production teams to eliminate or reduce reoccurrences. Assists in sorting activities by documenting NC condition and acceptable condition, writing work instructions, coordinating sort activities and reporting sort results and ensuring scrap is properly transacted on-site and potentially at customer locations. Follows scheduled product audits and ensure audits are completed on time. Responds immediately and concisely to any observed non-conformance and any communicated potential quality concerns . Supports continuous improvement activities for safety, quality and productivity. Supports day-to-day production. Monitors production releases and ongoing quality checks throughout production. Assess production documentation for accuracy and completion according to APQP standards. Audits process recipes for correct tolerances according to the specifications (print, BWN, ASTM, IATF, etc.). Ensures processes are running as PPAP’d or under released deviation with documentation in place. Monitors safe launch activities for NCs and corrects/reports any deviations or corrections to the Internal Quality Engineers and Customer Quality Engineers. Ensures Quality Alerts are administered correctly and followed up on. Reviews Quality Hold areas and supports maintaining, root cause analysis, dispositioning, transacting in SAP, and implementing corrective actions. Performs other duties and assists with project work as assigned by management depending on future needs.

Your profile

Qualifications & Experience: High School Diploma. Substantial experience in quality control/quality assurance within the automotive industry with knowledge of TS16949 standards. Prior experience as a Quality Inspector and/or demonstrated use of test equipment or gages. Experience using calipers, micrometers, height gages and a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) a plus. Solid understanding of Metrology/Blue prints, GD&T Measurement Techniques, Calibration, Standards, Traceability, etc. Possesses and can demonstrate hands-on mechanical aptitude and creativity. Has proven ability to work with and explain subject matter to all levels of plant personnel. Experience working with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook . Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for product training and customer visits if needed. Able to problem solve using such tools as root cause analysis and support corrective actions through the use of Read Across. Possesses and displays basic statistical knowledge. Proven experience managing multiple activities at once. Is proactive in their approach to work and can work independently without need for direction. Individual must have ability to make independent decisions that may be of a complex nature Strong, effective and demonstrated written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Exhibits integrity through ethical behavior in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.
