Job Description

Basic Description:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer focuses on the development and execution of manufacturing engineering processes with an enterprise first perspective. The individual will provide an advanced level of expertise in manufacturing through planning, organization, control, integration and completion of assigned responsibilities by coordinating with engineering team members and operations management. The individual proactivity directs projects and team members to meet business goals and supervises a team of professional engineers. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer handles complex engineering projects that may be global in nature. The individual manages projects such as implementing and moving multiple product lines and is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the project to include; budgeting, cost estimation, developing project timelines and goals, evaluating prototypes against requirements and transitioning projects to manufacturing. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer must possess a strong understanding and background in fabricated assembles, welding processes, machining and magnetics assembles. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer role reports to the Director of Engineering role within the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage strategic manufacturing projects in a broad range of technologies
  • Possess ability to forge strong working relationships and successfully interact with operational functions, business areas, external partners, and employees, and senior management
  • Trusted business partner, ability to use sound judgment and discretion in management of business and customer information
  • Ability to make independent decisions and regularly suggest ways to improve services & processes
  • Engenders trust to influence without authority at all levels of the organization
  • Reviews projects for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements and related specification
  • Provides support to create proven production processes through pilot production validation
  • Acts as a facilitator to ensure commitments to customers are met in a timely manner and within budget
  • Mentors entry level engineers to strengthen skill sets in direct and indirect report and assists in the talent development activities to ensure a strong pipeline of engineering talent
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties / vendors for the flawless execution of projects
  • Develops project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders, and ensures technical feasibility
  • Ensures resource availability and allocation
  • Uses appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs
  • Performs risk management to minimize project risks
  • Develop, maintain, and project update tools (RFQ, Safety Sign Offs, Stage Gate sign off, Supplier Vetting etc.)
  • Maintain knowledge of manufacturing processes to improve competitive position
  • Foster an environment of creativity, teamwork and innovation by facilitating technical exploration and providing proactive support
  • Apply ITW Lean Operating Principles to manufacturing operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology Management or a related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing engineering specifically related to sheet metal fabrication, welding processes, machining and magnetic assembles
  • Independent and organized work style: effectively manage time and prioritize workload, adapt to change and consistently meet deadlines
  • Proven business aptitude, must be a decision-maker, willing to take calculated risks and can take advantage of business opportunities as they arise
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, good listening skills, team player who demonstrates the ability to relate to employees at all levels of the business
  • Willingness to travel to regional locations; both domestic and international (estimated < 30%)
  • Excellent project management skills
