Purpose of the Role: 

The primary purpose of this role is to manage and deliver Accelerator Projects for McLaren Racing. This will be achieved by working across all areas of the McLaren business, with our Commercial Partners, their key stakeholders and with our primary suppliers of external technical resource to ensure we deliver the Accelerator projects on time, to quality and within budget to achieve maximum Return on Investment.

The primary goal of Accelerator is to generate revenue for the McLaren Racing platforms and in doing so, the Manager, Accelerator projects will need to lead project delivery by managing the key stakeholders in the Commercial Partner organisation and engaging all supporting entities to achieve the project objectives.

The Manager, Accelerator projects is a new role which will align the vision and strategy developed by the Accelerator Steering Group with our Racing derived expertise and competences to overcome the unmet challenges of our Commercial Partners. By delivering exceptional value within the Commercial Partner organisations and improvements in their business metrics, we aim to drive greater engagement with the Commercial Partners and foster enduring ‘stickiness’ with the McLaren brand. This includes identifying, developing and winning Commercial Partner on-sell opportunities.

Internally within McLaren, the Manager, Accelerator projects will need to identify strategic risks and opportunities to facilitate effective decision making across a portfolio of projects. This includes clear project selection and prioritization, as well as managing the interdependencies between and among projects and serving as a point of contact for project performance data. Project management and governance, providing knowledge, expertise, and support to individual projects at a tactical level to ensure successful delivery as intended.

The Manager, Accelerator Projects will play a vital role in leading internally managed Accelerator projects, supporting across all Race Platforms, functions and Commercial Partners by delivering succinct status reports, and communicating progress to key stakeholders at regular intervals. The candidate will bring with them extensive experience of successfully delivering complex projects in an agile manner, management and developing high performing and motivated teams, implementing best practices and setting out of strong governance frameworks across a variety of cross functional projects.

Role Dimensions: 

This role will sit within the McLaren Racing Partnerships team with line reporting to the Associate Director, Accelerator. The role will be expected to lead teams of experts from the McLaren Advanced Projects (MAP) team, the McLaren People and Talent team, and external technical resource suppliers, such as Purple Sector. It is envisaged that these teams maybe formed from one or multiple resource pots, so called ‘Hybrid team’ that will be dependent on the technical requirements of the project. The role will also have close interaction with the functional directors, finance & people partnering teams to ensure that projects and initiatives are resourced appropriately to enable success.

This role will act as a test bed for internally resourcing Accelerator projects and will be required to continually assess and improve the mechanism which utilises hybrid teams.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Manage key Accelerator projects across Technical and People workstreams to ensure Commercial Partner satisfaction.
  • Interface with the McLaren Advanced Projects (MAP) organisation to test and develop a hybrid / insourced Accelerator project delivery model. Where external resource is used, interface with external suppliers to maximise the value-add form their expertise.
  • Build on and grow positive relationships across the business to enable clear decision making and leads and delivers successful projects.
  • Implementing project standardisation & structured documentation, including scoping documents, business cases, timelines and risk logs to provide consistency and clarity throughout the business.
  • Develop and implement reporting templates and embed their use to deliver key structured updates to Key Commercial Partner and Accelerator stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Conducting and supporting with Lessons learned exercises, documenting, and then implementing key action points from these reviews.
