Project Engineer – Electric Boosting Systems

The Garrett Motion Electric Boosting COE is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to support development of fuel cell compressor control systems.

The Garrett Motion Electric Boosting COE is charged with creating complex electric boosting solutions to meet increasingly stringent automotive regulations while still satisfying customer demands for performance and drivability. We are building a world class group that designs, develops and launches state of the art electric machines coupled to our market leading turbocharger technologies. These products will span vehicles from passenger cars to heavy duty commercial vehicles and include conventional and hybrid powertrains as well as fully electric fuel cell vehicles. By leveraging our aerospace and motorsports experience and heritage with high-power / high-speed electric motor technology, we lead the world in automotive boosting electrification. Garrett Motion has launched the first automotive production high speed electric turbo-compressor that not only includes one of the most power dense motors, it is also the first automotive use of air bearings. To continue this momentum, we are growing our agile team of global experts to lead new technology development in Torrance, California.

We are looking for a talented Project Engineer to support the development of cutting edge new products. This position serves as a key technical interface between our development team and external partners. You will take the lead on technical co-ordination including but not limited to: electronics, controls and software Then, working with the team, conceive innovative solutions to meet requirements whilst reporting to the ECOE program manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Technical co-ordinator – electronics, controls, software,
  • Thorough understanding of product design to communicate capabilities & performance expectations
  • Interfacing with suppliers & cross functional teams to ensure alignment of development activities
  • Be the key technical interface between development engineers & external partners
  • Technical customer interface of product requirements & controls.
  • Coordination between electric COE (stator, rotor, controller, interconnects) and product development team (mechanical and aerodynamic design)
  • Project development responsibility for technical deliverables meeting specifications & timing
  • Participate in validation and certification planning to satisfy industry regulations
  • Clearly define project goals, timing and address critical gaps based on experience
  • Learn and develop Garrett Motion engineering processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering or related degree
  • 5 or more years work experience developing electronic products
  • 2 or more years Project Engineering experience

Additional Qualifications Preferred:

  • Technical expertise (M.S., PhD or work experience) in electric machines/controls
  • Work experience developing products in the automotive industry
  • Basic understanding of vehicle electrical networks and turbochargers
