Painter

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the shop manager, the painter is responsible for preparing the surface to be painted, mixing resins, paints, reducers and hardeners as needed, and conducting the physical process of painting the item. Responsible for applying and removing decals and wraps.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Sand body areas to be painted and cover bumpers, windows, and trim with tape or paper for protection.
  • File, grind, sand and smooth filled or repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
  • Remove damaged sections of vehicle using saws and/or cutoff wheels, air grinders and wrenches, and install replacement parts using wrenches or welding equipment.
  • Apply body paper or separating film to exterior repair areas to avoid damaging surrounding surfaces during repair process, remove after completion.
  • Prime and paint repaired surfaces, using paint spray guns and motorized sanders.
  • Fill small dents that cannot be worked out with body filler or weld and grind.
  • Mix polyester resins and hardeners to be used in restoring damaged areas.
  • Install and apply decals using fine manipulation skills.
  • Wash chassis, Drip Check

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience: 2-5 years of experience
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills
Certifications & Licenses: Successful completion of the Medical Fit evaluation for use of a respirator.
Other Requirements: Extensive knowledge of the body shop paint process. Knowledge of painting chassis and related parts. Knowledge of sanding, buffing, and blending paints. Ability to travel occasionally. Ability to work a flexible work schedule as needed. Must own personal tools. Basic mechanical and fabrication skills.
