F1 & EV Demonstrators Program Engineer

In this position...
Ford Performance is looking for an experienced, talented, and highly motivated Program Engineer to join our Motorsports Engineering department. This engineer would work in supporting our F1 and EV Demonstrators programs and partners in all disciplines. As a global organisation you will be required to have a flexible approach to working hours outside of the norm, to attend race events/meetings and complete work when required.

This role is to assist our partners (both internal and external) in engineering and developing components for our EV demonstrators for competitions such as lap record attempts as well as organizing specific in-house tests for development and tech transfer. A key part of this role is to facilitate tech transfer back to PD in technical areas that include (but not limited to) aerodynamics, powertrains and chassis technology. The role will vary greatly, and the person selected should be willing and able to do what it takes to get the job done, from vehicle engineering, working with tech specs in various areas to schedule in wind tunnel tests, dyno tests, simulator tests, track tests, facilitating parts orders, chasing down component information and specifications, homologation processes, shipping parts and attending race and test events in a lead role.

This person must be a complete self-starter, must be creative and be able to work under pressure. A strong technical qualification in engineering, program support, planning and organizational skills are extremely valuable in this role. You should have excellent interpersonal, relationship and team building skills, and share our determination to deliver the very best results.

You will become part of a group of self-motivated team players who have an enthusiastic and positive attitude. You would play a critical role in assisting the development of components for extremely high-performance vehicles, infrastructure and equipment needed to support the program, whether its F1 or EV demonstrators.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
  • Possess a competitive spirt, proactive attitude, and interest in Motorsports.
  • Possess a practical knowledge of building race cars for competition.
  • Strong leader with ability to work with multiple partners and suppliers, and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with high responsibility and visibility.
  • Detail oriented self-starter and problem solver.
  • Ability to travel extensively (or as required) to support program development and potential race series support.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a passport.
  • International and Domestic travel will be required, including weekends.

Even better, you may have.. .

  • Experience in liaising with Ford engineering teams, manufacturing plants and production facilities.
  • Possess a practical knowledge of motorsport competitions and various series.
  • Racing experience as competitor or crew member and/or Formula Student.
  • Experience setting up & using vehicle instrumentation.
  • Knowledge and experience with GPIRS, FDRS and Ariba.
  • CAD experience including TeamCenter and CATIA is a big plus.

What you'll do...

  • Interface with strategic partners to support the design, development, manufacture and test of new components and whole vehicle projects.
  • Understand regulations and make ready information to support timely homologation submissions.
  • Liaise with internal motorsport engineering departments to fulfil engineering requests and support development using our in-house tools and engineers for aero, powertrain and vehicle dynamics development.
  • Manage programme planning and timelines to support development
    • Coordinate with various stakeholders
    • Meet critical deadlines while achieving performance
  • Support prototype and production builds as needed inc.
    • Logistics, timely decisions, information supply from Ford to partners
    • Coordination with team to understand implications of development and event programmes
  • Support & help facilitate in-house testing e.g ETL, K&C, Materials analysis
  • Support and help facilitate in-house manufacturing particularly rapid prototype manufacturing
  • Lead problem solving of issues to ensure rapid resolution
  • Work with marketing and comms teams to represent the vehicles and program interfacing
  • Represent Ford Performance at events
  • Be a point of contact both internally and externally for:
    • Parts procurement (bodies, engines, ad-hoc components) and liaison with stores and ordering
    • CAD and Drawing information/supply
    • Instrumentation of vehicles and components
    • Shipping and Logistics
