Controls Engineer

General Summary:

This position reports to the Chief Race Engineer or his designee and is located in Banbury, UK.  Working within the Control Systems Group to develop and operate control strategies and analysis toolsets to maximise the performance of the race car.  Working with drivers and race engineers on improvements and tuning of the systems for the team to improve race car performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Drive development and deployment of clutch & race start strategy
  • Develop and deploy car build and configuration tools for use by systems technicians
  • Monitor and provide advanced systems issue diagnosis from telemetry data during fireup and track running.
  • Periodic support for Control Systems test & development items at simulators/dynos.
  • Ensure the control systems are set-up and working within the FIA guidelines.
  • Work with Ferrari electronics, ERS, and engine engineers on all aspects of the car systems.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Chief Race Engineer or his designee.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Engineering degree in Motorsport
  • Experience in Formula One car systems

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of SECU, ATLAS and System Monitor
  • Experience of MATLAB/Simulink
  • Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
  • Able to prioritise the work load and able to manage your time efficiently.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role will require extensive domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
