Software Applications Engineer - Motorsports

Pratt & Miller Software engineering employs Software Application Engineers to support OEM Automotive companies and Motorsports clients with application support and development of a PME-created software application as well as Race Operations tools used in multiple forms of Motorsports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to all the following:

  • Provide customer application support for PME created database software application and motorsports competition service tools.
  • Responsible for test validation of new software tools prior to release of application to the client. This included PME created database software application (VES1/VES2) and motorsports competition service tools (TNS, PMW, etc.)
  • Work with customer to determine how best to apply software application to customer’s processes and use-cases and deliver the appropriate prototypes to address customer’s need in a timely manner
  • Assist in the development of tools specifically related to enhancing performance and strategy in various motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, INDY)
  • Work with customer to design and develop customer-specific software functionality
  • Work with PME Software Development Team to develop and release customer specific software functionality
  • Help customer to develop and implement processes to effectively and efficiently utilize software application
  • Interface and support customer through on-site visits, phone calls, and emails. Serve as a direct /on-site software department interface with Corvette, IMSA, and Indy clients in PME Michigan office.
  • Set up, manage, and run weekly project meetings with customer
  • Provide weekly status updates to customer
  • Provide appropriate status updates to PME Huntersville software department about on-going projects at PME Michigan
  • Provide software training

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors / 4-year Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience / Subject Matter Expert in applicable field that software builds tools
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in software development and application experience
  • Desired - Race Team experience (NASCAR / IMSA / INDY) of 3+ years
  • Excellent technical and professional skills
  • Subjective and Objective Vehicle Evaluation experience
  • Advanced Vehicle Dynamics background

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic Suspension and Vehicle Development process knowledge
  • Experience with direct customer interaction
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and to strict deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills for communicating with other Pratt & Miller Engineering team members and clients

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Monthly travel will be required

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Day Shift 7:30 am work start time M-F
  • Must be flexible with schedule to accommodate fixed deadlines
  • Ability to work during race weekends and off normal business hours (Saturday and/or Sunday)
