R&D Test Engineer

For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Job Description

Red Bull Technology are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Test Engineer to join the R&D Chassis Test Group based at our Milton Keynes campus. Being part of the Design and Development Team, the R&D Test Group is responsible for ensuring our Formula One cars conform to design specification by successful completion of a wide range of verification tests as well as developing new concepts.

Your role:

  • To analyse test requirements and define test programmes (development, diagnostic and verification) in consultation with other RBT engineers.
  • Creating and operating advanced test rigs to prove out latest concepts as they evolve will also be a key aspect of the role.
  • Operate modern servo-hydraulic test equipment, creating procedures in order to prove components are fit for purpose.
  • Undertake detailed analysis of recorded data and produce accurate test reports.
  • When department capacity calls for it, to complete routine proof testing of safety critical components as well as acceptance tests on numerous parts and assemblies.
  • To actively take part in the maintenance & upkeep of rigs, test equipment and R&D facilities.
  • Devoting time and attention to the Health and Safety needs of the department.

Who we are looking for:

  • A can-do approach and proven experience in an F1, high level motorsport or OEM testing environment.
  • A flexible working approach and the ability to work within tight timescales.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline and have proven hands-on experience.
  • An in-depth knowledge of current laboratory test operating systems such as MTS Multi-Purpose-Testware – this would be a significant advantage.
  • To be highly motivated and have a pro-active approach to problem solving in a technical environment.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel such that you can maintain a test history database, produce accurate reporting of test data and communicate the results effectively.
  • To possess excellent written and communication skills.

Not only is this a fantastic role, but it is also a fantastic team to work with here at Red Bull Technology. A good salary is just the start, there are many other benefits too such as our bonus scheme, private health care cover, life assurance scheme, workplace nursery scheme, company contributed pension scheme, on site gym & fitness classes, free daily food allowance, and a cycle to work scheme; but above all, the job satisfaction doesn’t get any better than the feeling of making a real contribution to our championship winning grand prix cars.
