Purpose of Role

The Uplift Build Engineer is responsible for the delivery of all uplift of pre-production vehicles to agreed specification, quality and timing.

They will coordinate a team of build technicians and supply chain team members to ensure builds are on time to a high quality and specification.

The role will be considered agile to support the Prototype Build activities where business priorities require.

Role Dimensions: They will subsequently plan and execute the end to end process through BOM definition to vehicle audit and customer handover. This role will report into Uplift Group Leader.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Create required BOM definition for each uplift
  • Accountable for engineering cost activities
  • Progress and status reports to be communicated back to the business
  • Work with Buyers-Material control for accurate delivery forecast
  • Work with business processes & resolve issues within engineering when they arise
  • Plan resources to ensure the uplift build plans are achieved
  • Management of implementing Build Deviation Requests (BDRs) including full records and traceability in-line with audit requirements
  • Management of build documentation for customer handover
  • Ensure retail handover dates are within the build timing plan and full vehicle sign off is achieved
  • Report to Uplift Group Leader to facilitate daily/weekly/monthly status report
  • Maintain and endorse McLaren values and culture including housekeeping, appearance and behaviors
  • Maintain close working relationships with the engineering groups (incl. attribute leads) to deliver programme goals as a key member within the Prototype Build Team.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Engineering degree (min II.I) or equivalent and a robust grasp of engineering theory
  • Experience of development programme delivery, ideally gained on low volume, high performance vehicle programmes
  • Design tools experience (CAD, Preferably CATIA v5)
  • Knowledge and experience of a broad range of vehicle and rig data acquisition, test and analysis techniques
  • Experience with production vehicle builds is desirable
  • Experience of prototyping and bespoke vehicle builds is desirable
  • Excellent IT skills and at ease with MS Office products (Excel)
  • Extensive McLaren product knowledge desirable
