Track Support Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

  • Manage, in the absence or in support of the Track Support Manager the track support team at race/test events, manage technical cominications and support the needs requirements of our teams and technical partners.
  • Work closely with the relevant Event Leaders before, during and after the events in order to ensure all reports have the relevant technical data to be issed to R&D and the motorsport business.
  • Provide high level support to all development partners at each development test, work closely with R&D team to ensure the highest level of feed back and use their knowledge for support of development directions.
  • Customer facing leader for all technical aspects at the track for all race events.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Race & Test Events:

  • Manage and ensure that before, during and after every single event, a tight collaboration takes place with Development Track Support Engineers and Track Support Engineers in order to make sure the Tyre Development Engineer have the relevant level and quality of data necessary to develop next tyre generation. This collaboration may extend to our 3rd party vehicle dynamics partner and software developer.
  • This role will encompass being the primary link between partners/customers when at the track and supporting the day to day running of the track support team, with also a major focus on product performance.
  • For all major development tests, ensure that all the processes for tyre shipment, hotel & flight bookings are carried out within the engineering team and that movement schedules are produced in time for the Event Leader to organise.

People:

  • Support the Track Support Manager to train and engage the seasonal contract track support engineers on a yearly basis. The training will also involve the full time track support engineers and constant development at race events.
  • The size of the track support engineering team will vary according to Motorsport Business need. It is therefore important to always find the right balance between engineering knowledge continuity and sustainability as well as cost to the Motorsport Business.
  • The track support engineering group is the first point of contact between our customers and our company, their ethic and professionalism will therefore have to be high and the Senior Track Support Engineer will need to ensure the highest standards are achieved especially in the absence of the track support Manager at race events.
  • The expertise and knowledge of the field must be offered to Events Leaders to guide them in the right tyre choices for a specific event or upon a customer request.

Reports:

  • Drive and organise the tyre development tests in line with our customer expectations, RDE&Q requirement and Motorsport Business needs. This will go from track rental to tyre test execution. It will therefore require a strong knowledge and respect of all procedures - Purchasing, Health & Safety, RDE&Q, Operations, etc...
  • The product testing is financed partly from RDE&Q and partly from the so-called External Testing Budget which belongs to the Motorsport Business. This role is therefore expected to liaise directly with the Director of Technology in order to manage this budget. That is from the creation of the budget to the usage of it.
  • External Relation:
  • In a similar role to Automotive Engineer/Testing & Track Support Manager, this role will be the supporting contact with our stated Development Partners (OE or non-OE). The role will therefore require regular communication with our partners on the status of the development project, feedback to RDE&Q and Motorsport Business any customer requirement. Feedback will be priviledged to be under a written form.
  • The communication with our partner will mainly take place with the Technical Director or Project Manager of our partners.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering or Motorsport Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Motorsport - Tyre Development or Track support activities.
