Starter Drag Racing

Job description

This is a non-exempt, part-time/temporary position limited to 1300 hours annually. The Starter is responsible for ensuring all Drivers and race cars have proper identification and for managing Vehicles to ensure they are in proper position to race.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret and relay information to the Operations Supervisor and Drag Racing/Tower Supervisor.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions Operations Track Supervisor and Drag Racing/Tower Supervisor on all emergency incidents that occur, using mature, sound judgment.
  • Manage starting area to ensure no unauthorized access to starting area is allowed.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and facilities
  • Must turn in all forms in a timely manner as instructed
  • Ensure adequate communication with racers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Requires good public speaking skills and a good command of the English language.
  • Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining a friendly demeanor.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Documentation of incidents
  • Assist Fire Safety Leader during accidents and fires.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Knowledge of:

  • Operations, services and activities of an assigned program area.
  • Drag Racing.
  • Public Relations.
  • Chain of Command.
  • Basic First Aide, CPR certified.
  • Basic knowledge of incident command, fire and rescue operations. Ability to:
  • Follow directions of the Operations Supervisor and Drag Racing/Tower Supervisor.
  • Evaluate and recommend suggestions in a positive manner to improve starting area efficiency.
  • Interpret and apply rules and regulations in assigned program areas.
  • Ensure program compliance with mandated City policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to remain calm during a automobile accident and/or fire.
  • Ability to speak to public, staff and volunteers in calm and courteous manner during times of stress.
  • Assist Drag Racing/Tower Supervisor in managing racing events and keep races

    running smoothly and efficiently with minimal interruptions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities the position requires:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aide and CPR certification (Within 3 months of hire).
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • At least one year experience with drag racing as a spectator, racer or staff person.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain certifications of attendance in emergency response and fire safety within 6 months of hire.
