Race Tire Development Compounder

Specialty Tires of America, Inc. (Indiana, PA), the oldest continuously operating tire manufacturing facility in North and South America, is seeking an entry-level Race Tire Development Compounder to learn how to develop and improve the performance of mixed rubber used in the production of race tires. Ideal candidates for this apprenticeship-like opportunity are enthusiastic about auto racing and being directly involved with improving the performance of racecars.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend race tire tests and interview drivers to evaluate performance of experimental compounds
  • Report test findings to chemist and tire engineering
  • Offer suggestions for improving race compounds
  • Review production testing for race compounds to ensure quality
  • Mix experimental laboratory compound batches
  • Investigate race tire customer complaints

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least two years of college course work in Chemistry
  • Desire for working on cars
  • Willingness to learn
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others and interact with customers
