Onshore Electrical Engineer

Scottish Power Renewables are looking for an Onshore Electrical Engineer to join their East Anglia Hub projects based in either London or Glasgow.

Role: Onshore Electrical Engineer
Projects: EA1N & EA2
Duration: Initial contract until 31st Oct 2024 with renewal in line with the projects predicted tor un on until 2026
Location: St Vincent Street Glasgow or Tudor Street London/hybrid style working
Rate: Inside IR35, PAYE and Umbrella options available

Main Purpose of Job
The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for specification of main electrical equipment technical requirements, tendering, negotiating, and managing contract technical requirements, planning and implementing delivery of tasks associated interfaces, defining company and business engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.

Key Tasks

  • Responsible for EHV/HV equipment specification and design activities initially for Taiwan windfarm projects, providing key engineering advice, assessment, and recommendations to ensure delivery of projects within time, to budget and quality following the highest industry practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety, and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance.
  • Provide expert advice on engineering strategies / risk levels relevant to a multi-million-pound work package, to ensure that cost effective technical solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood by the project.
  • Ensure that all assessment, advice, and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions.
  • Ensure that health and safety and environmental requirements are fully considered and adhered to in design to ensure compliance with legislation and industry best practice.
  • Be fully aware, informed and up to date of the latest technical developments related to EHV/HV electrical equipment and identify and assess suitable new that has the potential activities to reduce cost and risk or improve safety.


Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of EHV/HV electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience of offshore wind farm grid connections.
  • Experience of engineering design and delivery.
  • Understanding of electromechanical drawings and documents.
  • Project, contract, and time management, with ability to complete projects and keep to deadlines
  • Numerical skills and ability to quantify the costs of potential incidents
  • Adaptable and good at problem solving
  • Results orientated


Minimum Criteria

  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • The ability to understand complex engineering and construction information, which may be unfamiliar
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Experience of working in and managing highly skilled teams
  • Solid grasp of engineering and work control of large-scale project delivery
  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and learn how to use new IT applications.
  • Educated to degree level in relevant engineering discipline or a related subject.
