Motorsport Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer

Job Description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

GM Motorsports is seeking a Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer responsible for multiple areas of simulation to help define test procedures for vehicles on the racetrack to gather required data to validate existing models and develop advanced models to improve the accuracy of the simulation toolchain.  The vehicle dynamics simulation will also be used to increase engineering understanding of vehicle dynamics and play into many aspects of race car performance development.  Experience in multibody vehicle dynamics modeling using Modelica Libraries in Dymola and knowledge of motorsport simulation tools is valuable. Your passion for creating highly accurate and numerically efficient models will aid in your success. Position is open to international hiring.

  • Play a key role in the development of new simulation toolchains and in the improvement of existing models

  • Bring the state of the art in simulation model development to our tools

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)                                                                                                                      

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field

  • Minimum 2 years of motorsport experience such as F1, Sports Car, IndyCar, or NASCAR

  • Knowledge of various aspects of vehicle modeling - suspension kinematics, tire models

  • Extensive knowledge of developing multibody vehicle models using Modelica Libraries in Dymola

  • Understand how to optimize model performance for use in real-time Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) simulators

  • Experience formulating and solving minimum lap time, quasi-static simulation problems

  • Knowledge of motorsport simulation tools and how they are used in practice

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact well with others

  • Must be a team player, be able to work a flexible schedule, and have a high level of integrity
