Mechanical Design Engineer - Systems

For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Chassis Systems and PU Integration Design Group. You will be part of the design team responsible for the installation of the fuel, cooling, power unit and exhaust systems, as well as mechanical integration for electrical systems into the chassis. This encompasses a broad range of design tasks, from system design to bespoke tooling and jigs.

Based in the heart of our F1 design office you will work closely with the other engineering groups on campus including Powertrains, Electronics, Car Build, Manufacturing and Race Team. With a shared dedication to excellence in engineering, you'll drive our designs and solutions and make your mark in F1 history!

This role would be suitable for an experienced engineer who has a good knowledge of vehicle design. To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be educated to degree level within a relevant discipline or have completed an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering design or similar qualification.
  • Have recent and relevant design experience within aerospace, motorsport, or automotive industries.
  • Have a track record of delivering successful engineering design solutions making use of a range of manufacturing techniques suitable for both metallics and composites.
  • Challenge existing designs and develop ideas to improve car performance.
  • Be an experienced user of 3D CAD systems (Siemens NX desirable but training will be given).
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and calculation.

In return we offer the opportunity to work as part of our championship winning team in an exciting environment, one where you can often see the results of your work on the racetrack in a matter of days. Working for Red Bull also comes with a whole host of benefits, such as a generous bonus scheme, private healthcare cover, life assurance, workplace nursery, company contributed pension scheme, on-site gym and fitness classes, on-site canteens with food allowance and a cycle to work scheme.
