Homologation Lead Engineer

Role Overview

Reporting to the Homologation manager, this role supports the homologation manager in achieving global vehicle certification and compliance. These activities include:

  • Identifying homologation requirements and monitoring of homologation processes and regulations for new vehicle types to ensure compliance with legal requirements 
  • Arrange, support and conduct physical tests that are part of the homologation process, 
  • Creating compliance test reports and collating regulatory documentation
  • Interface with technical services and approval authorities to deliver certification for required markets.
  • Work closely with vehicle design engineers, interpret regulations, offer expert opinions on design issues and justify and record the decisions
  • Monitor global regulations (e.g. FMVSS, ECE, GB) and consumer ratings protocols (e.g. US and Euro NCAP, IIHS, RCAR), ensuring changes are communicated throughout the business to ensure on-going compliance of Fisker vehicles. 
  • Support the Fisker team to create the EU and China conformity of production plan.
  • Develop and plan all necessary required audits. 
  • Expert knowledge to deliver comprehensive, correct and conforming data to EPA and CARB.
  • Familiar with IMDS system process and guides suppliers, Fisker team regarding all market certification material requirements.
  • Prepare and file all necessary documents related to Testing, Type approval, and Self-certification.
  • Maintaining approvals in good standing with all regulatory agencies as products evolve and improve.
  • Interact with global regulatory bodies including NHTSA, EPA, EU type-approval agencies, Chinese test labs and others as required

Key Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of automotive homologation experience with at least 3 years in a direct Global Certification activity related role.
  • BSc Degree or higher in relevant engineering subject
  • Ideally, direct experience in taking a vehicle program at least for one market. E.g.  North America, Europe, or China.
  • An in depth understanding of global regulatory requirements and structures
  • Deep curiosity to understand the product and how the regulations may be applied.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with government authorities and test labs is a must
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and globally as required to support homologation activities
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint

Additional Information

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run
  • Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals
