Purpose of Role

As the Senior Engineer - Power Electronics, you will design, engineer & deliver, from concept to series-development, Power Electronic (PE) components ensuring they fulfil all the programme requirements (cost, timing, performance / function / attributes). Power electronics in EDT includes Motor Control Units (or Inverters), DC/DC converters, Chargers and associated high voltage safety systems.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Guarantee PE integration and delivery to all vehicle projects– to specification, on time and on budget.
  • Understands and supports the package constraints for the PE units. Working with PE suppliers, Concept teams & DMU to ensure PE components and systems meet technical and package targets and to deliver detailed designs on time to predetermined quality, cost and weight targets, within DFM requirements.
  • Ensure design solutions deliver systems that meet attribute targets in NVH, thermal, durability, visibility & performance related attributes (power, emissions, and response).
  • Working with Supply Chain Management to ensure delivery of the PE on schedule for all phases of prototype, pilot, pre-production and production build.
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews.
  • Provide support on PE technical risk management to ensure project delivery, optimised vehicle performance and delivery of hybrid system attributes
  • Guarantee PE ownership and delivery to the specific vehicle programme requirements including:
  • Component Specification which specifies integration requirements for PE units.
  • Support Hybrid System FMEA, System DVP, Support Vehicle / Hybrid System level test specifications
  • PE planning, timing & delivery including design, release, ECR/ECN in line with ETRS requirements, development and validation plans
  • PE BOM management & tracking
  • Robust concerns resolution
  • Delivery of PE for all projects in line with MDP (McLaren Development Process) and ensuring that Project Management KPIs are on track
