JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Communications (full-time, salaried, regular) will serve as an integral part of the Marketing Team and is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s overall communication strategy, including Corporate communications, Business communications, Industry communications and Media relations. This role will report directly to the SVP, Marketing and work closely with both the executive leadership team, business stakeholders across the organization, and external partners and agencies.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop overarching PR/communications strategy (includes Corporate, Business Units and Industries) that is aligned with the business objectives and ensure that it is integrated and articulated to all the organization’s stakeholders
  • Manage all elements of execution including coordination and timing of external media, internal communications, pitching stories, scheduling media interviews, and managing crisis communications
  • Establish the PR strategic practice within Motorsport Network – defining processes, prioritizing PR stories and campaigns, engaging and partnering with external agencies, and strategic planning that includes corporate communications, business-specific stories, consumer PR, proactive long-term pitching, raising executive profiles, as well as local and trade PR
  • Act as the main point of contact and manage work with any and all external PR agencies
  • Drive best-in-class internal and external communications materials (press releases, news alerts, creative assets, talking points, press kits, corporate and media site content, social content, employee communications) ensuring that all are of high-quality and support brand, vision, and values
  • Provide strategic communications guidance to the office of the CEO and executive leadership on strategy articulation, strategic initiatives, change management, and employee communications
  • Develop key members of Motorsport Network’s leadership into the spokespeople for the company and industry with media engagement preparedness, conference activations and speaking engagements, interviews, feature quotes, etc.
  • Establish and cultivate close working relationships with broad range of media to proactively advance business strategy, pitch and shape stories, and secure coverage
  • Proactively identify traditional and unique opportunities to maximize press coverage across multiple platforms
  • Oversee the organization of press events, junkets, speaking engagements/panels, press briefings, and media tours
  • Work cross-functionally to nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders to strategize and execute successful publicity campaigns
  • Develop PR performance and insights analysis in partnership with external agency partners to report on impact and performance and to inform optimization opportunities
  • Manage corporate social media channels
  • Coordinate award submissions

 

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years leading PR / Communications for a global brand in the automotive or motorsports space
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Fantastic network of media contacts especially in the automotive and motorsports industries
  • Excellent writer with extensive published writing samples (press releases, news alerts, etc.) to share
  • Experience working on global businesses and with global teams
  • Track record of effectively partnering with executives and agencies
  • Ability to build excellent relationships with and to communicate strategy effectively to colleagues, leadership, partners, and agencies globally
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to effectively interface and influence at all levels and globally
  • Personal passion for and interest in the automotive and motorsports industries
  • Broad communications background with expertise in corporate communications and media relations
  • Strategic innovative thinker with ability to see emerging trends and big picture
  • Successful track record in navigating complicated strategic communications
  • Superior project management skills that allow ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities
  • Must have strong communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting to executive management

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel may be required when safe to do so
  • Must be willing and able to accommodate UK/EU time zones
  • Able to work independently and under the direction of a leader who is not co-located
