Purpose of Role

An opportunity exists within the Development group for a Development Workshop Team Leader.

The primary function of the role is being responsible for all aspects of controlling the activities of the technician teams based at Idiada proving ground in Spain and off-site testing locations.

The successful candidate will also be required to supervise, mentor, and train Development Technicians for vehicle development activities.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Reporting directly to the Idiada Workshop Manager.
  • To be responsible for planning the technician workload through the workshop and allocating technician resource such that tasks are completed on-time and to the appropriate standard.
  • Implementing additional hours, shift patterns and weekend working as necessary to achieve required work.
  • Capturing and control absences, following up overtime and time tracker as required for the allocated team.
  • To ensure that technicians are made available so that all on and off-site testing requirements are fully supported.
  • Working closely with the Development Workshop Manager and other Company Health and Safety representatives to maintain the current workshop and any future facility so that it is fully compliant with all Health and Safety requirements with particular emphasis on Hazardous Voltage safety and PPE usage as required.
  • To ensure that the current workshop and any future facility meets McLaren standards of presentation.
  • To be responsible for keeping the administrative elements of the Department, including but not limited to contractor timesheets, Virtual Car, department tracking files for KPIs and any Health and Safety related documentation, up to date.
  • To ensure that the technician teams have access to all technical information relevant to their tasks.
  • Working in conjunction with HR, to prepare for and conduct the recruitment and selection process for additional and/or replacement technicians when required.
  • Working in conjunction with the Workshop Manager to control and maintain within the assigned budget and approve expenses from allocated team members as required.
  • To conduct Performance Review process as required for the assigned technicians according to the timing and process requirements of the business.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the pool vehicles are maintained and presented to McLaren standards. Ensure the mileage/usage log is kept up to date, that any faults, damage, or incidents are reported in a timely manner and that the vehicles are used in accordance with Company policy.
  • To identify any developmental needs of the technician teams and arrange training, formal or informal, mentoring etc. as appropriate.
  • To offer support to all sub-departments withing the workshop’s remit, coordinate work, share resources and offer support as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A recognized automotive apprenticeship and/or relevant NVQ, City and Guilds motor vehicle studies or any other Automotive qualification or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of current automotive technologies and processes.
  • Should have extensive experience in motorsport/prototype/low volume/high performance vehicle manufacturing, assembly, and operation.
  • IT literate and competent in the use of various software packages, for example but not limited to Microsoft Office.
  • Full, clean driving licence and passport/travel document.
  • Eligible to live and work in Spain.
