Summary

Provide technical responsibility for engine calibration and deployment from prototype stage through production while supporting engine hardware development as needed. Have the willingness to be able to thrive in a fast paced environment with a high level of motivation and accountability. Proficient organizational and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engine calibrations to achieve emissions and performance targets
  • Recommend changes to the calibration strategies, testing procedures or engine hardware to achieve target objectives
  • Perform standardized, prescribed or diverse test assignments while maintaining detailed test records
  • With occasional assistance, perform setup and instrumentation of calibration vehicles and engines
  • Utilize precision test equipment and measurement devices
  • Effectively communicate within the company and suppliers to discuss schedules, program needs and test data
  • Periodic traveling to test locations and suppliers alone or with a colleague
  • Coordination of test vehicles and necessary test equipment
  • Participation in vehicle test sessions in different locations (summer and winter)
  • Project handling and project documentation according to specified processes
  • Performing release procedures (verification and validation) for different sample stages as well as final production software
  • Validation of the calibration under various factors
  • Detailing instrumentation and test requirements to technicians
  • Refining and running powertrain models to characterize system interactions & sensitivities, as well as to develop or assess controls requirements and calibration approaches
  • Checking data quality and correcting problems when issues are found
  • Interpreting results and assimilating findings into a documented summary
  • Communicating results and conclusions with interfacing activities and management
  • Compose technical documents and detailed test reports

Skills and Qualifications                                           

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with engines, emphasis on controls systems and experience with model based calibration is a plus
  • Experience with Engine Test Bed & Dynamometer Automation
  • Knowledge of
    • Fuel Gasoline Engine Calibration strategies and technologies
    • data acquisition systems and sensors
    • combustion analysis tools
    • Design of Experiments
  • Proficient with ETAS INCA and MDA
