Apprenticeship Opportunity - Pattern Shop Machinist/Programmer

Williams are recruiting an apprentice opportunity within our Pattern Shop as a Pattern Shop Machinist/Programmer. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who have a passion for engineering, along with the confidence, belief and determination to succeed in a company that offers variety, interest and responsibility with great engineering prospects for the future.

The role of Apprentice Pattern Shop Machinist/Programmer will encompass three disciplines which are basic pattern making, machining and programming. Throughout your time here as an apprentice you will gain an overview of pattern making and prepping in readiness to machine material and gain an in-depth understanding of Machining/Programming.

This is a 4-year Apprenticeship where you will attend OAS in Culham in which you will graduate as an Engineering Technician. You can find out more information about OAS over at: https://www.oas.ukaea.uk/ .

As part of your first-year training you will attend OAS full time with some keep in touch days held here at Williams. At the end of your first year at college you will then return and do block release to attend college, at this stage in some areas you will be expected to become part of the teams shift pattern which we will give you more information about in the interview process.

We are interested in applicants from a variety of backgrounds, who are committed to pursuing vocational qualifications in engineering. A minimum 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above is required including Maths and English. A keen interest in engineering is vital to be successful in this position so please do advise on your CV of any hobbies or extracurricular activities which would help support your application. Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will receive support accordingly; this is including regular performance evaluations with the nominated manager to aid professional and personal development. Successful applicants will be able to communicate effectively, have a positive attitude to work and a mature outlook. A flexible attitude to work and hours is essential, as well as being a good team player.

Closing date is Monday 5th October - Initial video call will be held 16th October and then a two-day onsite assessment within the department will be held w/c 19th October. Please note this role is due to start at OAS college Monday the 2nd of November 2020.
