Mechanical Design Engineer

Cognito Motorsports is a rapidly growing Truck, SUV & UTV aftermarket product manufacturing company based in Bakersfield, California. We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team who possesses the capabilities and experience required to develop complex designs into high-quality manufacturable products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project manage the evolution of product concepts through all phases of development, including design, prototyping, fitting, testing and manufacturing.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Sketches rough layouts and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages and location of holes.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings, specifications and related data to determine design factors such as dimensions, shape, load capacities, arrangement of parts and duty life cycles.
  • Uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
  • Follows PDM procedures for the organization, management and storage of all engineering data.
  • Measures fixtures and parts during production to ensure tolerances and specification compliance.
  • Provides production support to machining, welding, fabrication and assembly departments.
  • Assists with installation instruction development, including scripting, technical content and composition.
  • Prepares weekly project status and disposition reports for Engineering management review.
  • Maintain organized and clean department work areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors and management.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures described in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided engineering (CAE) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM)
  • Experienced with 2D or 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ProE or other);
  • Technical writing skills;
  • High level of numeracy and technical competency, with an understanding of the applications used within design and production;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to help with problem-solving;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with teammates, contractors and vendors;
  • Genuine interest in automotive performance, powersports, vehicle customization, or motor racing a big plus;
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary teamwork toward the achievement of company goals.
