Job Location

General Role Overview

The Manager, System Requirements, EE Architecture owns the full responsibility for building Fisker’s system and software requirements – SYS.1, SYS.2, SWE.1 - for Fisker’s next generation EE and software architecture platform.  The candidate will build and lead a team of Requirements Engineers who will work closely with System Architects to elicit and capture System / Software Requirements for components of the next generation architecture.

The team led by the Manager, System Requirements, EE Architecture will work closely with System Architects and Software Architects, Hardware, Software, and System Engineers across the team to understand the EE architecture and its components. They will organize the information they capture from all the stakeholders and document it in our requirements repository.  They will perform gap analysis on the requirements, strive to break them down further, and address all gaps to complete the definition of the architecture and its components.

The successful candidate in this role will be an excellent leader who demonstrates an insatiable appetite for working on innovative system and software projects, an ability to understand complex technology quickly through participation in technical discussions, excellent ability to organize the captured information, and strong written skills to document the information for the consumption of the entire organization.  They will also bring the ability to hire enthusiastic, high-performing requirements engineers and manage the team to deliver success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the System Architects and Software Architects to understand the hardware and software components of the next generation EE and software architecture platform.

  • Hire a team of bright and enthusiastic System / Software Requirements Engineers, motivate, and guide them, and lead them towards successful delivery of all the goals of the team and organization.

  • Delegate tasks and component ownership to members of your team to perform the following functions:

    • Actively participate in technical discussions related to their assigned system / software components and improve their understanding of the system.

    • Capture requirements and discuss them with internal and external stakeholders, clarify open points and details.

    • Organize the requirements, structure them, and document them on JAMA.

    • Perform gap analysis of the documented requirements and derive new system and software requirements from the gap analysis process.

    • Organize and conduct requirements reviews with all internal and external stakeholders.

    • Incorporate stakeholder feedback on the requirements and make necessary corrections and improvements.

    • Continuously review and perform gap analysis of the requirements to refine them further through a process of continuous improvement.

    • Work with the relevant domain experts, architects, and engineers to enhance and clarify their understanding of the requirements.

    • Communicate the requirements the System Architects and Software Architects as well as Hardware and Software Managers to support their high-level and detailed design efforts.

    • Communicate the requirements to the Program / Project Managers as well as Hardware / Software Managers to support their planning process for project execution.

    • Create and maintain traceability of the requirements for the entire development cycle according to ASPICE.

    • Provide necessary support to design and execution teams for successful execution of the projects.

    • Support the establishment and improvement of processes, methods, and tools for requirements management.

    • Continuously improve your understanding of the overall system and drive the establishment of very high-quality requirements for multiple versions of the product.

    • Represent the system/software requirements team in meetings with senior management and all internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure that the entire organization is aware of the efforts and progress of the system / software requirements team.

  • Evolve metrics and benchmarks to measure the progress of your team.

  • Identify and implement ideas to improve the organization of system / software requirements to support more effective hardware and software development.

  • Identify tools, strategies, and new methodologies for effective and efficient capture and organization of system / software requirements.

  • Drive compliance within the organization of hardware and software development standards, including ASPICE.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.  Master of Science is preferred.

  • 10 to 12 years of experience (depending on the level) in system and software development in an embedded device space, particularly automotive electronics and software.

  • 2 to 5 years of experience as a leader in Requirements Management in automotive electronics and software.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • Excellent hands-on working experience with Automotive requirements tools, such as JAMA, DOORS, or Polarion.

  • Excellent hands-on working experience with Agile tools, such as Confluence and JIRA.

  • Expert understanding of the ASPICE process, with at least 2 years of experience leading ASPICE practice and enforcement in an automotive organization.

  • Strong understanding of embedded system software and operating system architectures.

  • Exemplary leadership skills to grow and lead a team of highly performing engineers.

  • Leading-from-the-trenches style of leadership to work as a hands-on contributor in addition to leading the team.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent documentation skills and an eye towards document design.

  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Must be comfortable with operating in a fast-paced, startup environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Preferred Attributes and Competencies

  • Good understanding of automotive EE hardware architectures and integration processes.

  • Good understanding of automotive safety system design and safety levels.

  • Good understanding of ISO-26262 and relevant automotive safety and cybersecurity standards.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required.
