Vehicle Restoration Mechanic

We are looking for a skilled, motivated, talented, hard working individual to join our team, who shares a passion for classic cars. A keen attention to detail, working to a budget and being a team player are important. Applicants should have experience with most of the following:

  • Classic car mechanicals (carburettors, brakes, transmissions, steering, suspension, electrical etc)
  • Engine building, rebuilding and fault-finding - typically petrol V4 and V6 engines, including camshaft timing techniques, head skimming, plastigauging and so on
  • Restoring interiors, trims and brightwork
  • Machining (lathe and milling machines particularly)
  • Test driving and vehicle assessments
  • Being able to sketch parts on disassembly, understand technical and exploded drawings, and work with translated workshop manuals (when available)
  • Stripping, cataloging and storing parts
  • Maintaining quality control and keeping evidence of work done for reference, future estimating or marketing material
  • Reporting on work done, and time taken, for invoice generation and record keeping.

Applicants will need to be multi-skilled as this is not a role where parts can just be replaced - often there aren't replacement parts and repairs, restorations, workarounds and adaptions need to be considered. Strong diagnostic skills are a must as the issues we are tasked with resolving are not always obvious in their cause.

Our clients vary in wanting a budget job to see through a vehicle sale, to full nut and bolt restorations with every detail taken care of on their behalf, to motorsport/competition preparation.

We appreciate qualifications through experience rather than one paper, and a photographic portfolio of previous work is just as convincing as a folder of certificates.

We like to think we look after our team, but equally we like to give a degree of independence rather than watching over their shoulders. This allows technicians to tackle problems in their own way to achieve success.. You get to be your own manager to a certain extent, but with backup in the form of colleagues and management when you run out of ideas.

Extra responsibilities can be given, related to health and safety, equipment maintenance, project management including communicating with vehicle owners.

As a smaller company, we may also need to divert your time onto things like collecting/delivering cars on our trailer, stock-taking, unloading deliveries from suppliers and that sort of "all hands on deck" effort, which hopefully rather than being a distraction instead adds variety to the days.

All applicants must be UK based. Due to the number of applications from the African continent we are automatically rejecting non-UK applicants. Ideally the candidate(s) will be based less than an hour from Norwich, UK.

Salary dependant on experience.
