P&T Technician

The position:

The P&T Technician provides support to all areas of the Prototype & Test department, supporting both the test and projects engineers to focus on the development of the facility and testing capabilities.

Main duties:

  • To carry out component and sub-assembly tests for strength, durability and performance, including proof and in-service tests using a range of hydraulic test equipment (hand pumps, single axis test machines, multi-axis bespoke rigs)

  • To assist and represent the department’s involvement in all forms of off-site testing, dyno test, FIA crash testing, MIRA K&C, Cranfield CofG and other on or off-track events.

  • To contribute to the support engineering team, including Design, Electronics and Control systems

  • To contribute to the R&D projects, liaising with engineering/stress to ensure hardware meets the testing requirement.

  • To maintain, operate and develop the department’s dynos and rigs.

  • Focus on improving the quality and efficiency of all department processes while ensuring a safe working environment.

  • To assist department test technicians & other personnel with technical support regarding all areas of the department

  • Data monitoring, analysis and test report generation

  • Maintain and action dynamometer and rig service/maintenance schedules

  • To assist with the servicing and maintaining of Sensors, Test and Hydraulic equipment

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • HNC/HND or Degree level with recent experience in a Formula 1 or motorsport factory test environment.

  • Machining and fabrications experience

  • Familiarity with Instron, Zwick Roell, HBM, GOM and Servotest testing equipment.

  • Experience in the use, set up and operation of servo hydraulic actuators and test rigs working a range of control modes

  • Experience with data acquisition tools such as Matlab, Atlas and Mistras AE would be advantageous.

  • Experience with NX and Team centre and the ability to interpret engineering specifications and drawings.

  • Experience in the use, application and maintenance of data acquisition sensors

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
