SUMMARY:

The Pit Gate Guard position is responsible for monitoring and evaluating all pit area activity.  The Pit Gate Guard stands at designated gate and checks for proper credentials, reports any suspicious or sensitive activity to the General Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Monitor the pit gate entrance to control the flow of vehicles, personnel, and equipment entering and exiting the pit area, ensuring that only authorized individuals with valid credentials are granted access.
  • Verify the credentials of drivers, team members, officials, and authorized personnel seeking entry to the pit area, checking for valid passes, wristbands, or badges in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Enforce safety regulations and guidelines within the pit area, such as speed limits, no smoking policies, and personal protective equipment requirements, to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries during race events.
  • Conduct visual inspections of vehicles entering the pit area to ensure compliance with equipment standards, vehicle specifications, and safety requirements outlined in the racing rules and regulations.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with drivers, crew members, race officials, and track personnel, providing directions, assistance, and information as needed to facilitate efficient operations and address inquiries or concerns.
  • Manage crowds and maintain orderliness at the pit gate entrance, especially during peak arrival times or busy race days, by organizing queues, controlling access points, and managing traffic flow in coordination with other staff members.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to any security incidents, disturbances, or emergencies that arise within the pit area, taking necessary actions to de-escalate situations, notify appropriate authorities, and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
  • Keep accurate records of individuals granted access to the pit area, incidents or issues encountered during gate duties, and any other relevant information, contributing to post-event debriefings and incident reports as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous experience working as a gate attendant, security guard, or access control officer in a similar setting; familiarity with motorsports or racing environments, including knowledge of pit area operations, racing rules, and common industry practices;  or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Dependable and punctual, with a commitment to fulfilling assigned shifts and responsibilities according to the race schedule and event calendar.
