Maintenance Assistant

Our team is expanding and we'd like you to join us for the ride as a part of the maintenance team here at the circuit, join a growing team at an exciting time as we move into a new era of Lydden Hill.

You will be working at an internationally licensed race circuit, assisting in the lead-up and on-event maintenance across the entire site. From tyre walls to grid markings, there is always something new going on!

Over your career, you will learn exactly what preparation is needed for motorsport events; the maintenance team are responsible for maintaining spectator facilities, ensuring the circuit is ready for events and anything in between. The sense of satisfaction at the end of a successful event cannot be rivalled.

Responsibilities for a successful maintenance applicant will include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting with the preparation of the circuit including building tyre walls, operating track cleaning equipment, preparing gravel traps, setting up CCTV camera system.
  • Assist with venue presentation including strimming, mowing, painting, cleaning, and branding (including some work at heights).
  • Assisting with post-event clean up including general repairs to the circuit, spectator areas and the clearing of rubbish.
  • Involvement with unique projects to continue improving the circuit.
  • Helping to complete health and safety records including checklists, training will be given.
  • During events, the maintenance assistant will become part of the wider circuit staff team helping with noise testing, facility maintenance, recovery, track maintenance and being reactive to potential issues as the event progresses.

Requirements of the applicant:

  • On occasion, additional hours may be required to meet deadlines
  • The successful applicant will need to be a team player as they will be joining a close-knit, small team who are dedicated to the success of the circuit
  • Weekend work for a variety of different events which will include early starts
  • Good people skills are required for communicating with contractors, suppliers and customers, whether they are event operators, competitors or spectators
  • A successful applicant should be willing to travel for Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy events if required for a select few weekends a year to assist with 5 nations BRX branding. This may include travelling to rallycross circuits in different countries such as France, Belgium, Wales or Ireland for example.
  • A successful applicant must be punctual and reliable
  • Previous experience in site maintenance is a bonus but not essential
  • Full UK driving licence essential due to needing to drive vehicles on site, machine tickets are a bonus but not essential.

Monday - Friday 08:00 - 17:00 plus weekend hours.

The maintenance assistant role is an extremely varied job role day-to-day, with the circuit holding a different event every week the requirements of the maintenance team vary hugely, the work will be physical and can range from preparing the rallycross track surface to installing additional spectator fencing.

Lydden Hill runs a broad range of events at the circuit, from public track days to large spectator race events, private tests, filming or corporate days. As a bonus, try to mention during your interview process that we exclusively use 16 inch tyres to build our tyre walls.
You would be joining the circuit at an exciting time of development, planning permission has been granted that will expand and modernise not only the physical facilities of the site, but also the range of events that can held.
Construction has already started on our shiny new access road, once this project is complete this will trigger a ‘daisy-chain’ of development according to our planning permission with the final step being a fancy new pavilion that will house garages, office space, function room, bar, catering and more.

As well as the above, previously we have been limited to using the circuit 52 days a year, no matter the type of event; once we have progressed with the expansion of the circuit further days will be ‘unlocked’ allowing for rapid growth of the number and breadth of events that we can hold, we expect these new days to come into effect from March 2024.
