General Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Vehicle Test & Validation, this role will be responsible for technical duties surrounding engineering testing, test vehicles, and operation within an engineering mechanical workshop.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers to identify mechanical and electrical faults, failures, and modifications required on vehicles and systems.

  • Perform general mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work on company test vehicles.

  • Perform vehicle modifications, assembly, disassembly, and parts replacements.

  • Assist with the setup and installation of engineering test equipment.

  • Maintain asset and calibration logs for engineering equipment and ensure accurate record keeping.

  • Perform some vehicle testing and evaluation activities under the supervision of engineering members.

  • Data collection and accuracy confirmation while utilizing data acquisition systems for various vehicle-level or system-level development activities while following test procedures and policies.

  • Manage a schedule to coordinate technician requests and prioritize work.

  • Management of test vehicle fleet and ensure vehicle up-time is maximized by avoiding unscheduled maintenance.

  • Respond to urgent requests for mechanical/electrical repair on test vehicles.

  • Troubleshoot vehicle-level and system-level faults and failures for prototype and production vehicles.

  • Assist with investigations into vehicle faults and concerns.

  • Fabrication and/or repair of prototype parts, harnesses, body components, and other systems.

  • Participate in vehicle tear-down and inspection activities to identify any concern areas and recommend mechanical/electrical countermeasures as necessary.

  • Conduct benchmark vehicle assessments and component analysis via partial tear-down or system operation inspections to understand and summarize mechanical/electrical functions.

  • Inspection and replacement of High-Voltage components, such as Batteries, Charging Systems, and Drive Units.

  • Maintain a clean, safe engineering workshop environment and conduct safety and operational training as needed.

  • Set up and assist with vehicle testing activities and test events on prototype and production vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.  Vocational school or Trade school is preferred.

  • 5 years of experience as an Engineering Technician in the Automotive industry.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • ASE Certification in multiple automotive areas.  ASE Master Certified Technician or equivalent is preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems and technical concepts related to powertrains, electronics, chassis, thermal systems, etc.

  • Basic harness and wiring knowledge and ability to troubleshoot using circuit diagrams and workshop manuals.

  • Experience with High-Voltage Systems / Batteries and associated safety protocols and precautions.

  • Experience and knowledge using hand-tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and other workshop equipment.

  • Ability to use data collection or logging equipment and electrical tools, such as sensors and power equipment.

  • Ability to self-manage a work schedule and job priority list and multi-task.

  • Experience with hands-on mechanical work, fabrication, welding, and machine shop.

  • Hands-on electrical project, harness, or PCB experience.

  • Focus on safety, caution, and process improvement in all workshop related activities.

  • Creative, detail oriented, team focused, and collaborative work ethic.

  • Safe driving record.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
