Job Location

  • Hyderabad, India (Hybrid Work – In Office and Remote).

General Role Overview

The Engineer, Hardware, Embedded Electronics will be a member of an execution-focused hardware team responsible for successful development and productization of in-house designed electronic control units (ECUs).

The Engineer, Hardware, Embedded Electronics will report to the Senior Manager, EE Hardware Design. Their team will be responsible for one or more new ECUs in Fisker’s next generation architecture.

The successful candidate in this role will work with all internal stakeholders as well as external suppliers and partners to drive the product through its design, development, and test cycles as well as HW / SW and vehicle integration.  They will demonstrate a keen interest as well as broad technical skills and understanding of embedded electronics hardware units in automotive.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Study and understand the system requirements for the hardware ECU / HPC unit your team is responsible for.

  • Study and understand the high-level design of the unit from design documents as well as working closely with design engineers, architects, external design partners, and suppliers.

  • Take ownership of specific assigned tasks in the development cycle of taking the hardware unit from design to production and execute successfully on the tasks.

  • Participate in and support the detailed design and prototyping of the unit.

  • Plan and drive the validation process of the unit with the validation team(s).

  • Plan and drive the qualification tests of the unit with suppliers and validation team(s).

  • Support the suppliers, partners, and Fisker Purchasing team on identifying and securing components for the units.

  • Support design optimization, functional safety, product quality, and cost reduction exercises to continuously improve the unit.

  • Triage issues reported in validation and qualification testing, identify root causes, and drive the resolution of the issues with the internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support software bring-up and development on the ECU / HPC unit(s) by addressing all hardware issues reported during the software development cycle.

  • Support optimal packaging of the units into the vehicle, addressing all requirements of power, space, and thermal management.

  • Support vehicle integration of the ECU/HPC unit(s) and address all issues identified during the vehicle integration and testing cycle.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve the units on all parameters.

  • Support the identification and ramp-up of volume manufacturer(s) for the units.

  • Stay on top of all standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements for the ECU/HPC unit(s) you are responsible for and ensure that the product meets all criteria for success.

  • Keep up to date with the latest advancements in the automotive hardware design and development process. Help the team hone these skills over time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.  Master of Science is preferred.

  • 5+ years of hands-on hardware design and development experience in a fast-paced, technology-focused organization, preferably in the automotive space.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end development cycle of automotive electronic control unit (ECU) or High-Performance Computing (HPC) hardware.

  • Strong experience in hands-on debugging of embedded electronics hardware issues.

  • Experience working with multicore ARM based Processors / SOCs / microcontrollers and High-Speed interfaces such DDR3 / DDR4, PCIe, USB, etc.

  • Experience in Design and Analysis of Analog circuits using OPAMPs and ADCs / DACs / Discretes.

  • Experience in Reviewing and Analyzing PCB Layout, Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, and EMI / EMC compliant design practices.

  • Hands-on with Hardware testing and using Lab equipment such as Scope / MSO, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, etc.

  • Proven expertise in successfully taking new hardware from design to production.

  • Good understanding of vehicle integration processes for embedded electronic systems.

  • Strong familiarity with emerging connected, software-defined vehicle technologies.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision.

  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be comfortable with operating in a fast-paced, startup environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Preferred Attributes and Competencies

  • Strong hands-on experience in the development of ECU / HPC units at a global Tier1 / OEM.

  • Strong understanding of packaging and operating constraints for hardware components and wiring harnesses in the automotive environment.

  • 2+ years of FPGA based designs and Logic development in VHDL / VERLIOG using Xilinx / Altera tools.

  • Good understanding of automotive safety system design and safety levels.

  • Strong understanding of ISO26262 and relevant automotive safety and cybersecurity standards.

  • Proficiency in Hardware design software such as Cadence OrCAD, Cadence Allegro, or Altium.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required.

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
