Durability Analysis Engineer - Interim

Background

No restraints. No limitations. We don’t simply push boundaries. We completely rethink them. McLaren Automotive exists to create breath-taking performance road cars.

With innovation at the core of all we do, every challenge starts with the same question. How can we do it better? This restless spirit runs right through McLaren Automotive. And the search for perfection is evident in everything we do.

Purpose of Role

Perform work in a variety of settings to build systems that collect, manage and convert raw data into valuable information for different business areas. Using huge amounts of real world as well as proving ground based and simulation data, the Durability Analysis Engineer will extract information to define robust vehicle level durability requirements as well as system and component duty cycles.

Reporting to the Principal Durability Analysis Engineer, the Durability Analysis Engineer will be based at the McLaren testing facility within the Idiada proving ground in Spain, and should expect to travel occasionally overseas, principally for the purposes of technical contacts or supporting data acquisition activities.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Real world vehicle use analysis (mileage, failures in service, etc.) and proving ground based test data analysis (fatigue accumulated, attribute degradation, consumables use, etc.) to define high level durability requirements and vehicle test profiles.
  • Set up and execution of ADAMS simulations to predict chassis loads.
  • Set up and execution of nCode and Simulink based simulations to create accelerated durability duty cycles for system and components.
  • Definition of KPIs to quantify and qualify the fatigue accumulated on vehicle systems and components.
  • Automation of routine tasks using Python and MATLAB scripts.
  • Development of tools and processes to improve data validation, statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Work with the different design groups through durability issues root cause analysis and countermeasures validation.
  • Design and execution of data analysis routines to support other business areas.
  • Work with IT infrastructures to define better data collection and reporting processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent knowledge of automotive HW and SW systems.
  • Proficient in popular programming languages (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical skills - the ability to identify trends, patterns and insights from data.
  • Must be able to apply knowledge of statistics, reliability and durability theories.
  • Good working knowledge of ADAMS and nCode software.
  • Familiar with databases such as SQL and data visualization tools such as PowerBi or Tableau is advantageous.
  • Familiar with automotive data acquisition systems and diagnostic tools is advantageous.
  • Ability to write and speak clearly to easily communicate complex ideas in a way that is easy to understand.
    Personal Attributes
    • Passion for the automotive technology and data analysis.
    • Must be well organised and methodical, with an excellent attention to detail.
    • Must demonstrate a high level of self-motivation, initiative and determination to see a task through to completion.
    • Effective time management and prioritisation of tasks between multiple projects.
    • Able to work as an effective team member but also confident to work alone.
    • Should have a flexible approach to work responsibilities.
