Purpose of Role

As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing innovative, technology-lead solutions for body, powertrain (including systems integration), active and passive aerodynamics, packaging and ergonomics, interior, body structures, chassis and suspension designs on both Production and Prototype Vehicles.

You will be working from concept definition with our Design and Styling team through to design for manufacture details with our Supplier Quality Assurance team and assembly methods with Manufacturing Engineering.

You will be using industry-standard tools and systems including CATIA V5 3D CAD and SAP.

Your career as a Design Engineer at McLaren will begin with a structured development plan starting in our Digital Mock-Up (DMU) team. Here you will gain experiences and training to provide you with a platform of essential skills including:

  • CATIA V5 Dassault accredited training
  • Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • McLaren Engineering tools and processes
  • Lineside Manufacturing & Assembly experience
  • Prototype Vehicle build experience
  • Vehicle layout and Packaging
  • Vehicle Design Legislation

Principal Accountabilities

Report to Design Engineering Leader during Concept phase of Projects. In the latter stages of the project design phase work within the wider Product development team taking guidance from and supporting other functional areas as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Education to relevant Degree level.
  • Experience of using a 3D CAD system – CATIA V5 preferred.
  • Great attention to detail and an attitude to produce ‘right first time’ quality work.
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products
