Assistant Coach

 

The Assistant Coach will work alongside the series head coaches and help manage the training and development of pit crews across all racing series.  The Assistant Coach will assist with practice sessions, film review, scheduling, and all other coaching duties.  This is an in-office position with the possibility of travel if needed.          

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize as the backup to the IndyCar/IMSA Head Coach as needed.  
  • Help organize team and practice schedules for the racing season (12 Month Schedule).
  • Assist with hands on training and development of IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR and Development pit crews.
  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing practice and race data collected from film and timing.
  • Facilitate film review sessions with athletes.
  • Assist with coordinating physical therapy sessions, as needed, for pit crews.
  • Answer questions and be a resource for pit crew members.
  • Travel, as needed, to domestic and international races; 10 races per year.
  • If needed, at track duties include:
    • Responsible for pre-travel and travel day organization of pit crews.
    • Supervisory duties from plane departure to plane arrival and return flights.
    • Supervisory role with pit equipment – checking with all pit crew members to make sure everything is in working order and set up properly (when at track).
    • Keep drink coolers filled. 
    • Oversee and help setup of pit area and equipment. 
    • Oversee and help teardown of pit area and equipment.
    • Assist with loading and unloading before and after the race.
    • Record pit stops during race for review post-race.
  • Track usage of race and pit practice equipment. 
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks.  
  • Assist with maintenance schedules for pit guns, airjacks, fuel probes and other pit equipment.
  • Set up tear-down pit stop area before and after practice.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Assist department recruiter as needed for athlete evaluation. 

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field, preferred.
  • Experience coaching/training athletes required.
  • Knowledge and experience with pit crews’ physical requirements preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage and organize groups.
  • Mechanical abilities preferred.
  • Able to drive a pit stop car, if needed.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lb.
  • Able to travel, as needed, to race events.
