Senior Materials Engineer

To support the growth of the team, we have an exciting opportunity to be part of the Materials Team in the role of Senior Materials Engineer.

 

Working in the Material’s Group and reporting to the Head of Structures, the Material Engineer will be responsible for supporting the teams’ understanding of both composites and metallic materials, including the selection and understanding of their performance and limitations. This work will support the Design Office in their choice of materials, quality in ensuring compliance and production in maintaining a current database of material choices.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage material data and provide the necessary data to IFS, Production and Design.
  • Confirm material properties, process, and maintain the support documentation for this.
  • Working with Quality and Production to ensure a repeatable material performance is achieved.
  • Liaise with Quality to ensure compliance of any sourced material.
  • Forensic analysis and input on any material failures.
  • Ensure new supplier quality through standard a test programme.
  • Seek and investigate new material and processes (including curing, co-curing and adhesive processes).
  • Seek and investigate new material and processes (including heat treatment and coatings).
  • Financial evaluation of material options.

 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A track record of delivering results.
  • Be able to demonstrate good understanding of composite and metallic materials, both properties and processing.
  • Some experience of data management.
  • Effective task management.
  • Microsoft Office competent.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Have a relevant accredited degree in Materials or Engineering.
  • Be flexible, pragmatic and resilient.

 

Hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm 1 hour for lunch but additional hours may be required as work dictates.
