Purpose of Role

As Displays Project Engineer you will be responsible for development and delivery of state-of-the-art displays for current and future McLaren road cars.

As part of the Cockpit Electronics team you Will be responsible for the specification, development, test, and delivery of all displays. This includes developing system requirements, supplier management, test case and procedure creation, manual test execution, as well as supporting the Cockpit Electronics Principal engineer in proof-of-concept development and business reviews.

The position requires a highly motivated and hands-on team player with an exceptional attention to detail, diligence, and a positive attitude. The fast-paced development and bespoke target platform provide a challenging environment suited to an engineer who can quickly develop skills in new areas and liaise with other engineers within a multidisciplinary team.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Oversee the management of suppliers
  • Leading the development of the roadmap for the future displays in McLaren road cars
  • Write detailed system specifications for all displays
  • Lead integration of displays with the overall vehicle architecture
  • Manage the development of multiple hardware and software suppliers to deliver features on time, on cost, and within quality and functional specifications
  • Report on current activities, software, hardware status and issues at a business level
  • Manage cross functional teams to deliver DFMEA and vehicle validation plans
  • Develop and co-ordinate DVP plans for all areas associated with cockpit systems software and hardware
  • Ensure and sign-off launch readiness for production
  • Test McLaren road cars with the latest features and content before release
  • Assist with fault finding and root cause analysis of software and hardware failures
  • Report bugs and create test reports
  • Drive issue resolution with hardware and software suppliers
  • Take responsibility for resolving issues on current production vehicles
  • Leading the mechanical integration of their components within the vehicle interior
  • Manage supplier relationships to deliver features and components on time
  • Be responsible for the attribute performance of the displays

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Several years of work experience in displays development and delivery of mechanical, electrical or electronic systems for automotive applications
  • Experience of the systems development lifecycle (V Model), writing system requirements, defining test cases and writing test procedures
  • Experience of managing projects using risk management techniques
  • Knowledge with CAD, packaging of components and assembly process
  • Understanding of ‘A-Surface’ interactions and perceived quality concepts
  • Ability to produce formal documentation to a professional standard
  • Experience in hardware design and testing processes
  • Be well versed in the creation and maintenance of DFMEA's
  • Organised, systematic and understand the process of fault finding
  • Knowledge of CAN/LIN/Ethernet and related tools such as CANoe/CANalyzer
  • Familiar with issue tracking tools (Jira, Mantis, Bugzilla etc.)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferably 1st or upper 2nd) in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering subject.

  • A clean driving record and full UK license
  • Passion for the automotive industry, technology and/or infotainment/cockpit electronics would be advantageous but not essential
