Purpose of Role

Reporting to the Material Control & Planning Manager this presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate who wants to drive significant impact on the way logistics is considered within McLaren Automotive, and is dedicated to the future & growth of the business.This role is responsible for the creation and maintenance of achievable delivery schedules that support the requirements of our series and development programs whilst ensuring inventory levels remain within budgeted targets.The business is increasing the number of programs and annual volumes meaning the complexity of our logistics activities are also significantly increasing. This role is pivotal in ensuring our schedules and supply information is stable and accurate.A Material Control Senior reflects a higher level of technical skill and exists to provide support to the Manager and the team, affording them time to focus on more strategic activities. The attributes of a Senior role mean that the candidate is expected to work under their own initiative leading their team, in a high-pressure environment and in line with the task landscape ensuring successful on-time delivery achievement

Principal Accountabilities

  • Drive any business case to implement new processes.
  • Total ownership and implementation with associated metric reporting.
  • Support and drive solutions and cost down within daily operational tasks
  • Support the cross-company SAP system and deploy developments as required.
  • Enhance current business plans supporting industry leading KPIs.
  • Drive continual improvement in the way the team operates across the business to incorporate improved lean practices
  • To be the point of contact for supplier schedules, material engineering changes and booking in queries. Proactively set up meeting with purchasing and material control to present plans, engineering changes and capacity constraints.
  • To use MRP to balance demand and supply, creating a delivery plan that satisfies the combined requirements of production, development, and any other sources, keeping inventory within approved limits. Reduce obsolescence and inventory holding to achieve company targets.
  • To be responsible for pro-actively identifying and addressing risks to production requirements (capacity constraints/shutdowns etc.), supplier lead times, schedule stability, planned inventory levels and warehousing capacities and escalating when necessary.
  • To support Engineering in the effective implementation of new parts, ensuring MRP demand is accurate and coordinating the appropriate run out and ramp up of stock to ensure minimum financial impact due to part obsolescence.
  • To conduct scenario modelling to assess the impact of changes to demand and supply and to work with stakeholders to agree and implement a plan which will obtain optimal results.
  • Own and manage MRP parameter data to deliver the correct inventory levels and stability to McLaren’s Operations.
  • To manage schedule adherence data (schedule gaps and on-time issuing of schedule) against KPI target measuring all factors which affect materials and production planning.
  • If appropriate, to plan and provide logistical support for new model projects / option introductions

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience of senior stakeholder management.
  • Team management and coaching experience.
  • Strong and consistent approach to driving governance and processes.
  • Familiarity with operating metrics to drive performance.
  • Confident in presenting strategies with required analysis and business case.
  • Ability drive results whilst working across a wide range of stakeholders including purchasing, material planning and manufacturing.
  • SAP experience
  • Confident in dealing with stakeholders, holding and leading meetings, ensuring the requirements of the department and wider business are met.
  • Preferable understanding of Automotive OEM supply chains and supplier manufacturing processes.
  • Strong Excel and data interpretation skills.
  • Comprehensive grasp of planning principles and objectives.
  • Proven ability to make sound and logical decisions.
  • Structured and organised approach to the management of work
