Quality Engineer

Summary

The Quality Engineer is a major contributor within the production of manufactured products and overall responsible for ensuring the manufacturing process will produce a quality product the first time through. As the Quality Engineer you will monitor workflows, create documentation, qualify the product and manufacturing processes ensuring alignment with customer, local, state and federal regulations and requirements. Works with suppliers of materials and services to ensure compliance with all quality assurance specifications. Examine products to determine their quality, engage with customers, and gather product feedback. The Quality Engineer is accountable for leading continuous improvement projects using 6S/lean methodologies in the reduction of waste.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • As a proactive member of new product launches and advance development project team qualify product and processes at launch.
  • As a proactive member of PCN projects qualify product and processes in alignment with the PCN. Where new technology is implemented on one product line submit PCN to include upgrades so all product is following a consistent manufacturing process.
  • Use 6S/lean methodologies when leading continuous improvement projects and/or proactively participating in such projects in the reduction of waste.
  • Ensures work environments are safe, organized, and meet legal obligations.
  • Communicate the customer requirements related to product specifications, procedures and warranty issues, ensure compliance to those requirements.
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation includes customer and internal requirements to ensure first time quality product.
  • Conduct inspections of products and provide training of team members requiring guidance.
  • Outline initiatives that align with company goals.
  • Stay current on industry and product trends to identify growth and improvement opportunities.
  • Environmentally and socially astute, always considering opportunities to reduce carbon footprint and supporting community activities/events.
  • Proactively interfaces with other departments; sales, production, logistics, EHS, engineering, human resources, purchasing and finance.
  • Performs other duties as required and/or requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field.
  • Certification in 6Sigma Green Belt minimum and/or lean manufacturing required.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black-belt Certification preferred
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred

Work Environment

  • This role is visible on both the manufacturing floor and office work environments. Manufacturing is impacted by environmental conditions to include colder working temperatures in the winter and extreme heat in the summer. Standing and walking in excess of 4 hours. Noise levels may be elevated in some work centers, protective shoes and visual protection required, PPE is available and provided by the company.
  • Office is environmentally controlled. 4 hours of sitting in meetings and working on a computer.
  • Able to carry/move up to 35 lbs safely.
