Manufacturing Quality Engineer- Paint (1564)

Job Purpose

The Quality Engineer position is responsible for tracking and reporting on quality issues in zone/area of responsibility. The Quality Engineer performs activities for quality improvements in the department and works closely with other team members to resolve complex issues in the department.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage quality business plan theme (i.e. provide updates to management team, conduct Genba activity with theme members, develop schedule and action plan for theme activity, and develop monthly business plan monthly report)
  • Perform quality investigations, deep data dives (i.e. data analysis), and C/M derivations for complex quality issues
  • Take a proactive approach to prevent complex and chronic problems from reoccurring in the department.
  • Conduct complex quality investigations with direct/indirect associates from other groups to conduct root cause analysis, develop containment methods, and implement countermeasures
  • Track, analyze, and report quality data output to improve process capability, resolve complex issues, understand countermeasure effectiveness, and develop new ideas to improve quality outflow from the paint department
  • Become an expert in your responsible area/zone - understand what quality checks are performed in area, what quality control points are in place, understand the equipment operation and function, production processes and operation standards
  • Maintain and support Paint Quality Management System through procedure/work instruction/check sheet reviews and updates
  • Create monthly/weekly report to share quality data among department management team
  • Support with the development of Line Quality (LQ) associates in each zone by helping them understand roles & responsibilities to LQ's, supporting manager with setting expectations for LQ's, and provide consistent feedback for continuous improvement on reporting and problem solving skillsets
  • Provide production support and audit responsible area/zone processes for Quality Management System compliance and general quality compliance
  • Conduct projects related to improving quality and process efficiencies - develop action plans and schedules to effectively lead the project
  • Ensure good change point management when introducing a new process, task, material, etc.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing) or equivalent related experience.
  • 0-6 years of experience with problem/data analysis, engineering, marketing or other engineering/business environment

Working Conditions

  • Must be willing to work overtime (5+ hours/week) - Dependent on current condition and new model timing
  • Able to travel domestically
  • Flexible work hours: willingness to work alternate shifts, which includes, 2nd shift, split shift, weekends, and shutdowns, as required for new material trials, implementation and quality related issues
  • Open office environment
