Located within five hours (300 miles) of 25 percent of the U.S. population, Watkins Glen International is the premier road racing facility in North America, three-times voted “Best NASCAR Track” by readers of USA Today. The Glen hosts a diverse portfolio of premier sports car, open wheel and stock car races throughout the year.

Watkins Glen International is in need of a general maintenance position.  This role encompasses working with building maintenance, housekeeping and landscaping. It  is responsible for performing custodial, minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties for properly maintaining the grounds and facilities.

This role will work and train with other experienced employees in maintaining the facility during large and small events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in general cleaning, and repair work

• Uses hand and power tools in making minor maintenance repairs and maintaining grounds and walks

• Move furniture and equipment upon instruction

• Uses brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, and clean floors

• Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified procedures

• Replenishes restroom supplies

• Sets up and tears down chairs, tables, and equipment

• Clean debris and dust from the assigned areas

• Maintain the overall condition of the building and grounds

• Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: Hours will vary but will include all hours of operation, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary to attend events and to fulfill job responsibilities. Acceptance of work hours customary in the field of sport/entertainment is necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and communicate simple instructions and write simple correspondence.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Must possess a valid New York driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and high, precarious places. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, risk of electric shock, vibration and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud but can be very loud at times.
