Electrical Engineer

SUMMARY

Research, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and direction of maintenance technicians in repair of equipment.
  • Optimization of production equipment and automation.
  • Hardwire design, programming, and commissioning of automation systems and production equipment.
  • Use of CAD, PLC, HMI, vision, motion, and robotics software for machine support, design, and commissioning.
  • Specification and procurement of hardware and equipment.
  • Design and evaluation of safety systems.
  • Installation of production equipment and automation including direction of resources.
  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Plans and directs engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  • Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Overtime as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

When assigned supervisory responsibilities:

  • Supervision of internal skilled trades labor and external contractors.
  • Directly supervises 2 - 10 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, and appraising performance. Assists in interviewing and recommends hiring of new job candidates.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university majoring in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of industrial hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC machine controls, robotics, blueprint interpretation, and precision measurement techniques.
