Design Engineer

Honda Racing F1 are seeking a Design Engineer to work within the Energy Storage System design project team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in the Motorsport industry on the technology of the future in a fast paced, challenging environment. Responsibilities include conceptual and detailed design of the cooling system, metallic and composite race car parts including any manufacturing tooling required, experimental parts, rig testing and calculations/experimentation.

Main Responsibilities:

•    Creation of design schemes for evaluation of concepts
•    Detail design of cooling system, metallic and composite parts
•    Liaising with other technical groups including electronics and suppliers
•    Specification / design of test equipment required
•    Organisation and overseeing of rig testing
•    Data analysis and making recommendations for improvements
•    Reporting of results in a clear, concise and structured manner
•    Any other duties as reasonably required by the Company

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

•    Strong Degree in Mechanical / Aeronautical Engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience
•    Minimum 3 years previous experience of working in motorsport (ideally within Formula One) or another cutting edge industry
•    Good knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid systems and heat transfer
•    Metallic component design experience required, Composite component design experience highly desirable
•    Experience of the fundamentals of mechanical design including best practices for machining, fixings, sealed junctions, fabrication and surface treatments.
•    Experience of packaging complex interrelated assemblies.
•    Ability to create designs from schemes through to completed part drawings.
•    Familiar with CAD packages, previous experience of Catia V5 preferable
•    Previous ESS or high powered electrical system design experience would be beneficial
•    Knowledge of Formula One PU installations would be advantageous
