Purpose of Role
As the Azure Senior Cloud Engineer you will help reduce this cost by tackling quick wins and also training other members of the team in best practice. MAL Azure cloud spend is approx £2.9m per year.
Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provision and manage cloud infrastructure resources using tools like Azure Resource Manager templates or Terraform.
- Define infrastructure as code (IaC) to ensure consistency and version control.
- Create and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to streamline software delivery.
- Oversee the release process, ensuring smooth deployments.
- Having contingency plans for rollbacks if needed.
- Implement and enforce Azure DevOps security policies.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and organisational guidelines.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Azure DevOps pipelines and builds.
- Optimise performance and address issues promptly.
- Design and maintain Azure DevOps dashboards for visibility into project progress.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Deep understanding of Microsoft Azure. Proficiency in configuring and managing virtual machines, app services, databases, and networking within Azure.
- Knowledge of Azure specific tools like Azure Resource Manager, Azure Storage and Azure Kubernetes Service.
- Automating software delivery: skill in using tools like Azure DevOps Services, Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
- Scripting deployment tasks, managing build processes, and orchestrating automated tests.
- Proficiency in defining and managing infrastructure using code (e.g. Terraform, ARM Templates).
- Ensuring consistent and repeatable deployments.
- Ability to monitor cloud resources, analyse performance metrics, and optimise system efficiency.
- Implementing best practices for scalability and reliability.
- Understanding cloud security principles and implementing security controls.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and organisational policies.
