Senior Aero Concept Designer/Senior Surface Designer

The Role:

This is a highly creative role relying on a high level of understanding of surfacing and parametric modelling techniques. You will be right at the heart of the design process, collaborating closely with aerodynamicists, model designers and full-size car designers to create high quality and high-performance surfaces.

As a Senior Aero Concept/Senior Surface Designer you will:

  • Work within one of the development groups, providing support in all aspects of the concept surfacing function.

  • Work closely with aerodynamicists to understand the definition and requirements of all new surfaces, including modelling and construction approach.

  • Create high quality surface geometry for both CFD Wind Tunnel and full-size release.

  • Liaise with Aerodynamicists, Model Designers to ensure efficient implementation of aerodynamic projects.

  • Mentor junior members of the group and support leads to push forward methodology and model improvements.

  • Ensure that standard design practices are adhered to for surface models issued within the aerodynamics department.

  • Taking an active role in helping to maintain any relevant surfacing documentation.

Our ideal Senior aero concept/surface designer will have:

  • Experience working in a similar role within F1 and appropriate engineering training, such as an apprenticeship, HNC, HND or degree in a relevant discipline (Motorsport / Aero / Engineering / Product / Industrial Design).

  • High level of CAD literacy (experience with NX would be an advantage).

  • In-depth understanding of surface quality, model layout and robustness.

  • The ability to work effectively under pressure with a high degree of reactivity in handling changes in priorities / direction.

  • High level of creativity coupled with an exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage workload and prioritise in-line with fast paced nature of F1 environment.

  • Great communication skills both verbally and graphically to help communicate throughout the design process.

  • A detailed understanding of the regulations required to ensure all surfaces are fit for purpose and in-line with FIA legality.
