IMSA seeks a talented professional to join us in the position of IMSA Senior, Simulation Engineer based in our Daytona Beach, Florida office.

 

This person is responsible for the development and use of simulation tools and collected data multi-class endurance racing environment to study relative car performance. 

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ownership of vehicle simulation efforts to support the Balance of Performance and Future Car process including interpretation, documentation, and presentation of results.
  • Ability to understand and apply context and contributory factors from on-track activity to subsequent analysis.
  • Assist in the collection, housekeeping, processing, and input of underlying car data into 3rd party simulation tools.
  • Ongoing correlation of recorded car data with simulated results including integration of elements such as car-specific modeling, degradation models, and contributory ambient conditions.
  • Develop, design, and create proprietary computer tools and software to support the above.
  • Support data monitoring, collection, analysis, and reporting across multiple series and classes. Assist in the development, integration, and support of data acquisition systems.
  • Further develop performance algorithms, statistical analysis tools, simulations, and standardized reporting to the IMSA Technical Committee.
  • Contribute to writing and revising regulations, further developing enforcement methods, and refining the simulation and Balance of Performance (BoP) processes.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Occasional travel to events and meetings as required (approximately 10%).
  • Open to locations outside of Daytona Beach, Florida        

 

Required skills / experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent; and at least five (5) years of experience in the motorsports industry.
  • Position is safety sensitive and participates in the corporate Substance Abuse Program (SAP).
  • Strong mathematical skills and an engineering background
  • Competence in modeling and simulation techniques 
  • A good working knowledge of modeling and simulation software
  • Possess an understanding of vehicle systems, vehicle dynamics, and control systems.
  • Professional motorsports experience required; team experience preferred.
  • Experience of motorsports data acquisition
  • Skilled with Excel and MATLAB.
  • Strong work ethic, unquestionable integrity, and commitment to excellence
  • Adept at multitasking and project management
  • Drive for the highest quality work
  • Data-driven decisions using solid engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to work as part of a small and diverse team.
  • Proficient on all Company-provided hardware and software. 
  • Some data acquisition software experience. 
  • Skilled with Excel, and MATLAB. 
  • Some experience in CAD and UG/NX-solid modeling.
