Job Summary:

A Lamination technician’s role is to lay up pre-preg carbon fiber onto molds to form specific custom products in industries such as Motorsports, Defense, and Aerospace.

Job Role:

  • Handle composite materials and follow established safety procedures
  • Hand laminate composite components using carbon fiber pre-preg and other similar materials, to specifications set by blueprints, layup manuals, and other technical documentation
  • Prepare components for autoclave cure utilizing vacuum bagging techniques (manufacturer breather, bag material kit).
  • Prepare tooling patterns and molds using chemical sealers and release systems
  • Follow build manuals and quality control processes
  • Consult and resolve quality issues as they arise, in consultation with project engineers
  • Ability to work with Supervisor’s established priorities to assure laminating and assembly workflow is sustained and attending to other duties as assigned
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Understands, works within, and contributes to the continuous improvement of safety, health, and environment requirements; adheres to all safety policies, reports safety and risk hazards
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Requirements:

  • Ability to interpret basic instruction via detailed drawings/instructions
  • An eye for detail and pride in making things by hand
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Desirables:

  • An understanding of engineering drawings (e.g. reading and interpreting documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, engineering drawings, and procedure manuals)
  • Comfortable using common hand and power tools
  • Previous composite laminating experience is an asset, but specific training will be provided as required
  • A basic understanding of composite component construction is an asset

  • 2+ years’ experience in Pre-Preg carbon fiber layup in the Aerospace and Defense sectors

  • Able to perform multiple tasks
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor activities with varying conditions
  • Requires walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, bending, reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • May involve operating material handling equipment in a safe manner
  • Work may include exposure to variable noise levels, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc., requiring personal protective equipment
  • Some positions may require working with small parts/components, necessitating excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
