Powertrain Lead Engineer - Electric Drive Units

Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for an Electric Drive Units Lead Engineer to be based at our office in Warwick.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

The Role
Lead/Senior Engineer for Electric Drive Units based from our European HQ in our Engineering Office working on projects for one of our prestigious customers.

Area of Responsibility

  • Responsible for Electric Drive Unit Applications and Integration

  • Responsible for applications engineering and hardware integration.

  • Develop robustness and lead failure mode analysis for application of Electric Drive Units

  • Ensuring that the sub-system delivers its technical objectives and targets

  • Ensuring that programme timing objectives are met

  • Ensuring the effective application of APQP to manage system/ component delivery

  • Ensuring that issues are addressed and closed off

  • Identifying all risks to the programme.

  • Ensuring that issues that cannot be resolved are escalated

  • Communicating progress to management

  • Ensuring progress is made by following up actions with their owners.

  • Ensuring any vehicle builds are supported with parts at the required level

Knowledge / Experience
Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar

  • Proven Engineering knowledge of Power Electronics, electronic components and different high voltage architectures.

  • Demonstrable understanding of different electric motor architectures and characteristics.

  • Knowledge of mechanical transmission requirements of electric motors used in vehicle applications

  • Knowledge of Automotive networks and protocols (Lin, Flexray, CAN)

  • Knowledge of diagnostics and debugging/validation

  • Experience with design specification and standards.

  • Proven project management capability demonstrated by recent delivery on time & budget.

  • Excellent communications skills, demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels,

  • PC Literacy: Microsoft Project, Power Point, Excel, Word etc

  • Significant experience in use of engineering tools, APQP, FMEA, Six Sigma, problem solving tools or similar.

  • Successful history of delivery within the automotive or motorsports sector.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree (2:1) or higher

  • Working knowledge of project delivery processes e.g. PPAP Working

  • Knowledge of DVP and DFMEA

  • Extensive experience working on/ with electric vehicles and high voltage architecture

  • Knowledge of power electronics analysis and simulation tools

  • Knowledge of electric motor simulation

  • Matlab/Simulink proficient

  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR

  • Experience with GT Suite, AVL Cruise / Cruise M, Ricardo IGNITE or similar
